I think the media needs boundaries when it comes to a celebs personal life. No one ever thinks of it as bullying but it’s definitely harassment. Talking about their music and movies (their actual jobs) is one thing, getting into their relationships behind closed doors, visiting home towns for dirt…

While I agree with how crazy the media are and how it’s ridiculous how they’re allowed to do unscrupulous things for the sake of their business, I gotta tell you, I just don’t care. The plight of celebrities is of no concern to me. Yeah, it probably really sucks having your life put on display like that, but one, you did fight tooth and nail to get to the position you got to, and you KNEW beyond a shadow of a doubt what was in store for you when you did. And two, hopefully all the money, fame and power helps. There are people in this world who need your advocacy. Some rich, famous powerful person who doesn’t know you and has zero interest in you or your life is not one of them.

edit: When you’re a public figure, legally speaking, you have no right to privacy because you chose that life. If for example, people started stalking the shit out of say, Kate Middleton before she became Duchess, they could be sued (and were), because just because she happened to be famous, she was famous for dating someone, not for intentionally putting herself out there to be scrutinized. Therefore, it was illegal, and she sued them and won.

edit: I can’t read, spell, or form real sentences.

No offense to the OP, though, srsly.

Just because someone “fought tooth and nail” go get where they are doesn’t mean they deserve to have their life destroyed. When you take the “fame” away from these celebs, all the shit that get’s done to them, also gets done to regular people except they don’t get to call the cops, if they commit suicide there is no one to blame, if people harass them everything is just brushed off. Having someone visit your hometown and then go around and ask people to talk shit about you is not normal. and like I said UNLESS the celeb is harming other people I don’t see the need in stalking their every move.

If you finally reached your dream and people stalked your friends, try to pay people to tell stories about you, make websites so people can talk shit about you, crucify you for    wearing something you loved, felt you didn’t deserve anything you got, release a sex tape, release naked pics  and call you a slut, whore, bitch or rude because you responded and made up stories about you that damn near RUIN your image JUST SO THEY CAN GET HITS ON THEIR WEBSITES,  I’m sure you wouldn’t like that. Celebrity or not, the shit the media does is UNNECESSARY.

But the thing is, they’re a product of the same society that we are. They knew what was in store for them. If you don’t want to be famous, don’t sign the record deal. Just continue to sing at coffee houses and what not. But of course you sign the rcord deal because you want the money and power and fame.

I’m not saying it’s a good thing that the media is doing to them. It’s terrible, and it’s nothing short of unfortunate. But they do not have to participate. They don’t have to be famous. That is the lifestyle of celebrity. That is the lifestyle they CHOSE. It’s the same way that you can make fun of someone for their choices but you can’t make fun of something for someone that they didn’t chose like the color of their skin or their gender because that’s discrimination. It’s the same way, you can’t get a liver transplant if you’re an alcohoholic because YOU fucked up your liver.

They don’t have my sympathy. I just don’t care. They’re rich and famous. When we’re done helping the people who didn’t know exactly what they were getting into beyond a shadow of a doubt before they ever got into it, and aren’t compensated handsomely for their trouble, then maybe we can think about helping the rich and powerful.

Really though I’m of the opinion that worrying about the plight of celebrities is an absolute waste of time.
